jumping-for-joy.jpgThere are many ways to beat the depression!

Depression is not an illness that can be treated fast and easily such as a cold or stomachache. It is a protracted disease which needs specific treatments requiring a patient’s active participation.
Fortunately, there are various methods used to treat the depression:

· Psychotherapy (counseling)
: Also known as therapy or counseling, psycotherapy involves a trained professional who listens, talks, and helps the person solve problems. It often takes eight to ten weeks for the full effects of therapy.

· Pharmacological augmentation
: If a person fails to respond to antidepressants alone, medication with lithium salts or other medicine with equal effect might be added to medication to augment antidepressant therapy.

·
Antidepressants
: Antidepressants are effective as psychotherapy although many patients cease medication due to side effects. People with severe depression had a decreased response to the placebo effect rather than the medication having a greater effect.

·
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
: ECT is a procedure whereby pulses of electricity are sent through the brain via two electrodes. Hospital psychiatrists may recommend ECT for cases of severe depression.

Lead a healthy Life: Do It For Yourself!
Although depression is a clinical illness, depressed people can help themselves by exercising or managing their dietary habits.

R
egular exercise helps to lift the mood of many people with mild to moderate depression. Actually, the way that physical exercise works is not proved yet. No one has a clear answer for how exercising contributes to treating depression. There are some hypotheses that allege the exercise leads to crucial changes in brain chemicals. Depressed people are strongly recommended to work out at least three times a week. Walking and running are the most common forms of exercise but other continuous activities using large muscles can have the same results.

Eating wholesome foods
helps the mind and body stay healthy and strong. Depressed people often seek junk foods or even reject to eat. Skipping meals makes any problem with energy and concentration worse. Sugary junk foods such as chocolate or candy may provide an energy boost at first, but a few hours later they make the person feeling even more tired or cranky.

R
educing stress Many people have a misconception about stress. Stress is not always a bad thing. Without a little stress, life would be dull and boring. Too much stress, however, can harm a person's mental and physical well-being. One way to reduce stress is simply to relax. When things give you too much stress, take a few moments to breathe deeply and imagine a restful scene (mind-control) or create a quiet mood by reading a good book.

Staying active - Don't isolate yourself from the society
Depressed person is likely to withdraw from other people and activities; however, withdrawal just makes the sadness and loneliness worse. Try to meet new friends or join a club that attracts your interests. It doesn't mean that you have to force yourself to join the society. Forceful join can lead to a worse outcome which frustrates you even more. Take a deep breath, and step toward slowly with patience.

Currently, many technicians and authors wrote books or conduct programs that help the patient to beat depression:
